Source Verification

How to verify source data before comparing specifications

Questions about checking datasheet revision, source credibility, vendor documentation, footnotes, and whether a value is safe to use in a purchasing or engineering review.

Back to Engineering FAQs

What source should be trusted first?

Use the current manufacturer datasheet, product page, application note, qualification document, or direct supplier documentation first. Third-party databases are useful for screening, but the comparison should preserve a direct source reference.

Why do revision dates matter?

Datasheets change. A value copied from an older revision can conflict with a current package, qualification, errata note, or ordering table. The comparison record should store revision date or publication context when it is available.

What source details should be attached to every extracted value?

Attach file name, page or sheet row, table label when available, original value, normalized value, unit, extraction method, confidence, and a short snippet. That is what makes the value auditable later.
