Missing Values

What to do when a datasheet does not show the needed value

Questions about missing specs, blank table cells, unavailable drawings, unclear package data, and how to avoid false conclusions when a product lacks a comparable value.

Does a missing value mean the product fails?

Not automatically. It means the value was not found or could not be confirmed. The output should distinguish missing, not applicable, not published, and failed constraint.

What should the tool check before saying no similar specs were found?

It should check alternate labels, unmapped populated headers, units embedded in header names, sheet names, notes, footnotes, hidden-looking sections, and values split across min/typ/max columns.

How should missing values be handed off?

The handoff should include the missing field, why it matters, what source was checked, and whether purchasing or engineering needs to ask the supplier for confirmation.
